The Sustainable Productivity Growth Coalition (SPG) is made up of countries and trade bodies, as well as academic and research groups/organisations. The coalition began at the United Nations’ Food Systems Summit in 2021, and those involved include Australia, Brazil, Canada, the EU, New Zealand, the US and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The coalition has been put in place to discuss green agriculture and to also discuss how to make food production sustainable. The coalition will share their knowledge on the best sustainable practices, and they hope to speed up the rate of establishing sustainable food production.
It was announced by the UK’s Environment Secretary, George Eustice, on the 23rd of June, that the UK have joined the Sustainable Productivity Growth Coalition. After the coalition was signed by the UK, Eustice stated: “I am pleased to announce today that the UK will join the Sustainable Productivity Growth Coalition convened by the United States. I look forward to working with our international partners in this dialogue on innovation, science and sustainable agriculture”.
