This year (2022), the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf hosted the first ever Sustainable Golf Week. The week was launched alongside the foundation’s partners to highlight the need to increase the sustainability within the sport.
The week ran in October and was a great opportunity for those involved to celebrate the sustainable achievements within the golfing world. The week also allowed those attending to consider other areas in which the sport can become greener.
As a result, ideas and sustainable steps will be presented to those who hold the power for change within the golfing industry. The sustainable week also allowed ideas for new practices for anyone in the sport to carry out in order for them to become more sustainable.
The GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf’s Executive Director, Jonathan Smith has claimed that the week was incredibly important for the sport as:
“Sustainable Golf Week provides an opportunity for people across the sport to connect around a common purpose – to make sure that golf becomes established as a credible global leader in sustainability and climate action.”
The main topics regarding sustainability in golf, that have been chosen to be improved include:
- developments and innovations
- grassroots clubs and courses
- tournaments
