In 2021, both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur became joint winners of the 2021 Sport Positive Environmental Sustainability League for being the most sustainable football teams within the Premier League.

In 2020, Liverpool FC has launched its The Red Way initiative, which put plans in place to improve the future for both its local communities and the planet. The initiative has a number of strategies in place to help people become more sustainable through:

  • making sure the club electricity and gas comes from renewable sources
  • making sure the food they provide is locally sourced
  • creating their allotments to grow fruit and vegetables
  • teaching the next generation about being green and sustainable

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that they are dedicated to minimising the effect their football club has on the environment. Through their strategies they encourage sustainability throughout the club, from the fans, employees, and partners. The football club is working towards sustainability through:

  • teaching the next generation about being green and sustainable
  • reducing single-use plastic use
  • reducing waste
  • using locally sourced food
  • providing alternative and cleaner transport options for spectators
  • establishing an ecological habitat
  • have pledged to be net zero by 2040
