Oxfam, one of Britain’s biggest charities, created Second Hand September which has run every September since 2019. The aim of the event is that those who wish to be involved only buy second hand for the whole month of September.

…only buy second hand for the whole month…

Oxfam announced that the event has been created to make people more aware of sustainability, especially when choosing an outfit. The world of fashion has a major effect on climate change, with around 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions being released by the fashion industry alone.

Buying clothes second hand is one of the ways that you can cut down your own personal carbon footprint. So not only do you get a new outfit, but you are also saving the planet.

Over the 30 days, Oxfam encourage those involved to spread the sustainability message throughout their social media channels. The charity asks that @OxfamGB! is tagged in all Second Hand September posts and you use the hashtag, #SecondHandSeptember.
