During the beginning of COP27, out of the many countries that are taking part in the event, a handful of them are pledging large amounts of money into the loss and damage fund.

This is the first time in history that loss and damage has been part of the COP discussion, as climate change has detrimental effects globally, due to impacts such as extreme weather events, temperature changes and rising sea levels.

Pledges that have already been promised include:

  • Scotland: £7 million
  • Austria: £44 million
  • New Zealand: NZ $20 million
  • Belgium: €2.5 million
  • Germany: €170 million
  • Denmark: €13.4 million
