COP27’s Youth and Future Generations Day has given young people an opportunity to voice their concerns regarding climate change and its effects on our planet.

One of these young people, who is hoping that those at the conference will listen is Elizabeth Wathuti from Kenya. Six years ago, Elizabeth founded the Green Generation Initiative to raise awareness of natural habitat loss, especially in Kenya and throughout Africa.

Elizabeth, through her initiative raises awareness of this worldwide issue through tree growing. Her reasoning for establishing the initiative was due to the damage she saw happening to forests near where she grew up as a child.

Before she travelled to Egypt for the conference she stated, during an interview that:

“We have to ensure that there is a great representation and participation of voices across the African continent, and not just the participation but it has to go further to make sure that the outcome we get out of COP27 has a reflection of the present needs of the African continent.”
