In order to improve the training for low carbon energy generation and electric vehicle jobs, the UK Government has given £2.4 million of funding to a number of colleges and businesses in the Northeast. The funding has been awarded by the Department of Education through its Strategic Development Fund.

The organisations involved include Northumberland College, Newcastle College, Tyne Coast College, 3t Energy Group, Energy Central, and SORA Group. These organisations are working together to build new courses to educate people within green industry areas in the Northeast, including sectors involving electric vehicles, renewables, such as wind power, and the manufacturing of batteries.
The Vice Principal of Partnerships and Commercial at Education Partnership North East, Iain Nixon, has stated that these “new courses [are] to help young people and adults develop the skills required by the area’s emerging green power and green transport sectors. For industry, the project will ensure they have access to highly skilled workers to support growth and drive improved productivity.”
As the green sector rises in the Northeast, many businesses are looking for workers that are skilled in these sustainable areas. This funding will give students taking these courses the knowledge they need to enter a sustainable area of work. Creating benefits for both businesses and students, and increasing the sustainability in the Northeast.
